GAME Plan

The two NETS for Teachers that I plan to focus on are, Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity and Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership. My goals for Facilitating and Inspiring Student Learning are:
-help students realize the fun in learning
-help students understand that knowledge is power
-help students connect school to the real world.
My main action to accomplish my goals is to model all of these things for my students. I can accomplish this by sharing my experience as a student. I can also show them countless examples of people of power and their education and how the two relate. I can also bring in professional people from the community so they can see and hear from people who may be actually earning a living in the same profession they may be interested in. I will be able to monitor my progress by the actions of my students. I will be able to evaluate my game plan based on my students progress through graduation and beyond high school.

My goals for Professional Growth and Leadership are:
-conduct professional development workshop during teacher workdays at school.
-participate in open forums on the iNACOL website.
-continue to familiarize myself with online learning products available to high schools.
My actions to accomplish these goals are to speak with my principal about presenting a technology lesson to staff at a teacher workday. Search the iNACOL website for upcoming forums to participate in. Contact the current online provider that my high school currently uses to find out if any upgrades are planned. Conduct periodic Internet searchers for online education providers for high schools. I will monitor my progress by checking goals off my list as I accomplish them. I will evaluate my learning based on the comments of my co-workers post presentation and responses and feedback provided in the forum and from the online learning providers.

It sounds like you have a great GAME plan on how to accomplish your goals for Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity and Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership. Some things I like to do for Professional Growth and Leadership is to see if the state I live in offers any workshops related to my field of teaching, technology, or education in general. Where I live, there are several workshops and conferences that I can attend where I can work with other educators and learn about new things in the education world.

  2. Eric,
It appears that you have put a lot of thought and consideration for your GAME plan choices, especially by allowing everyone else to reap the benefits of your labors. I know you are a very dedicated and conscientious teacher who takes his responsibilities and duties for his profession and students seriously. The way you are able to relate with your students will serve you well in your goal for Facilitating and Inspiring Student Learning. So often teachers teach from the textbook without any transfer or mention to how the skills are going to directly affect their students, why students need to know the skills being taught, and lack practice in real world application of the skills. This will be invaluable to your students for the rest of their lives. The old adage “If I knew then what I know now” is resonating through my mind now. As with your plan of helping your students realize that knowledge is power by sharing personal antidotes of your experiences, I am sure they will appreciate and take heed.

    Onward,
    Kimberly

  3. Hi Laura,

I am not sure what our state offers, but I am a member of iNACOL (International Association of K-12 Online Learning) which offers regular webinars on online learning. There is always helpful information of how online learning can be used to engage students and enhance learning.
Thank you for sharing on my blog and I will look into what my state offers.

  4. Kimberly,

Thank you for your kind words. I have always approached teaching from the standpoint of "I have to know my students before I can teach them". I think all teachers should take the time to show students how what they are learning relates to the real world. It is most students number one questions, particularly if it is a subject they do not care for and struggle with. Helping them understand the "why" of what they are learning can make all the difference in the world. We all need "buy-in" from our students in order to get them to engage in lessons they way we need them to. I am convinced that being a little transparent will help in the effort.
